Danreb’s Top 10 Games of 2015

Danreb’s Top 10 Games of 2015

My name is Danreb Victorio.  After more than 11 months of gaming, I post here with only one goal: to tell you about 2015’s best games.  I’ve played many games during this year’s crusade, but there were ten I believe were better than anything else.  They were something else.

“The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC” Review

“The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC” Review

[WARNING: This review is of a direct sequel to a previous game. I tried to keep it as spoiler-free as possible while still adequately covering the game. In order to do that, I had to work from the perspective of having played the first Trails in the Sky. I strongly suggest you start there before reading this review. You won’t regret it. -Patrick]

“Brandish: The Dark Revenant” Review

“Brandish: The Dark Revenant” Review

Nihon Falcom’s profile has skyrocketed on this side of the Pacific in recent years, with the Ys series in full resurgence and the Trails in the Sky brand finally making The Legend of Heroes a household name. Cultural significance. You don’t really associate those two words with much of anything we write about in gaming journalism. Even as mainstream as gaming has become, most of what we think of as major events in the gaming industry come and go in the cultural consciousness without much, if any, recognition whatsoever. Even what I’ve been given the privilege of writing about here, Capcom’s apparent decision to hit the open market and find out what they’re worth, needs the proper […]

“Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars” Review

“Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars” Review

When we first got a hold of Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars, one of the points in the Q&A press release was that the game might be offensive. From all the media circulating around—be it trailers, screenshots, or whatever else—it seemed easy to imagine it was about its sexualization and imagery of females. But after getting into it, it’s a striking blend of controversy and hilarity which makes Conception II an interesting and unique game. In all, Conception […]

Listen to My Story: Ending Sin Through the Power of Love

“Listen to my story. This… may be our last chance.” -Tidus, Final Fantasy X Exactly one year ago today, Jorge Mario Bergoglio ascended to the highest position in the Catholic world. Taking the name Pope Francis in honor of the famed Saint Francis of Assisi, the new Pope has since caused quite a stir in both Catholic and non-Catholic spheres around the world. Aside from being named Time Magazine’s 2013 “Person of the Year,” Pope Francis has been noted for […]

Launches Are Broken, Let’s Fix Them.

Launches Are Broken, Let’s Fix Them.

Now that we are finally cooling down from the latest two system launches — hopefully the last two for several years — I figured it was time for a good debriefing. Let’s recap the (d)evolution of system launches over the years, and where there is still room for improvement. I would personally call my launch experience exceptional, having acquired my Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, Game Boy Advance, Xbox, GameCube, DS, PSP, Xbox 360, 3DS, PS Vita, Wii U, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One […]
