As we near the beginning of the next generation of consoles with the release of the PS4 and Xbox One, I wanted to take a look back at one of my favorite games of this current generation since there really isn’t anything of note that came out this week. On the Metal Gear Solid timeline, MGS4 follows Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty as it takes place five years later with Solid Snake receiving a mission to assassinate Liquid Ocelot shortly after learning that he has a year to live due to the accelerated aging process that occurred due to the cloning process. Of course, after three previous games full of complicated stories building upon each other, MGS4 was Hideo Kojima’s attempt to try to wrap things up in that universe and answer as many questions as possible in that process, which resulted in the game jumping around in locations between each chapter and a very lengthy epilogue scene that attempts to put a nice little bow on the series. After its release, the game had a ton of rumors swirling around it that suggested it was coming to Xbox 360 or would get trophy support via an update or any other number of weird and tiring rumors from reliable resources, though only that trophy rumor eventually came true and that was more of a result of constant fan demand due to those rumors.
Looking at the upcoming releases before the PS4’s launch, it’s a bit of a shaky schedule as I struggle to find things to show off for you guys while we wait for the new platforms, so we may have to continue with featuring these older games until then. We will be doing a launch stream on Friday, November 15 and I’ll follow that up with another stream on Saturday for SmashPad Streamkend, so that will be a big streaming weekend for us.
