SmashPad’s Most Anticipated 3DS, Vita, and Wii U Games

Though they may not be new, the 3DS, Vita, and Wii U are still young platforms that are maturing as they enter their second and third years of existence on the market. We took a look into the near and far future to pick out our most anticipated games for these systems.

The Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and PlayStation Vita may not have the same overwhelming hype as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but these maturing systems are reaping the benefits of releasing earlier. The 3DS is doing well enough for itself as Nintendo continues to invest in more games for their handheld system, like a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and a new Kirby title. The Wii U may not be performing as well as its handheld cousin, as Nintendo initially underestimated what it took to make quality games in HD, but things are starting to turn around. With the titles they’ve released in the past few months, and the ones coming soon, hopefully it’ll start to get more consumers on board. Finally, the Vita had a strong launch with a weak following year, but Sony’s done a good job of finding new ways to get the system back on track with a big wave of games and some cool features when paired with the PS4. We know these systems aren’t taking the world by storm, but they each have their merits. They are all also doing a good job of capitalizing on their potential so that they may stay relevant in the wake of the shiny next-gen games coming this year and next.

To show that these systems still have some big hitters left in them, I polled my fellow SmashPad staffers for the 15 Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and PlayStation Vita games we’re anticipating the most. Compared to the list we made for the PS4 and Xbox One, this one has more variety. Just two titles received multiple votes: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for the 3DS, and X, the Xenoblade Chronicles-related Wii U game from MonolithSoft. Ranking platforms by games on this list, the Vita leads the pack with six exclusives while the Wii U and 3DS have four each (this leaves us leaves us with one multiplatform title that you may be able to guess).
