It was a pleasant surprise seeing a PlayStation truck at Silicon Valley Comic Con, and it was even more pleasant knowing that a playable version of Injustice 2 was featured in it, so we obviously gave it a try.
Though the game is literally a couple weeks away from release, the roster featured in the demo wasn’t anything too impressive. Superman, Batman, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman were all playable, but for the sake of time, I went with Aquaman while a friend of mine went with Superman.
If you haven’t been following the game at all, you should know that there doesn’t appear to be any sort of push to go alongside what DC is currently doing with their films. A casual gamer might be surprised to see Aquaman in his usual comic book form, with short hair looking nothing like Jason Mamoa.
Aquaman’s moveset is close to what it was in Injustice: Gods Among Us, as most of his moves require his trident almost giving him a Soul Calibur feel.
With Aquaman having familiar handling, I was caught offguard when my button mashing friend rolled out of the corner as I was finishing up a combo that cornered him. I also noticed that it used up some of his meter, so we don’t have to worry about these defensive maneuvers being overused.
Apparently you can also tech out of a combo, adding more depth to this exciting sophomore entry.
Injustice 2 comes out on May 16.
