JRPG fans have simply been eating this year, and NIS America has kept the party going with their lineup at Anime Expo that includes Phantom Brave and Reynatis while featuring highly anticipated Falcom titles Ys X: Nordics and The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak.
The latter of which celebrated its western release today (which we love so far), and Falcom kicked off this afternoon’s Trails through Daybreak panel with a reveal trailer for its sequel, The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II, primed for an early 2025 release.
After the trailer’s debut, Falcom President Toshihiro Kondo mentioned that there wouldn’t be too much discussion about Daybreak II especially considering Daybreak had literally just come out. He did mention, though, that one thing to look out for and realize is that the main character Van Arkride is the oldest protagonist in series history, and with that knowledge players should definitely look into how his advice to characters from Daybreak changes these characters as they move into the sequel.
Daybreak II aside, NIS America and Kondo-san mentioned that they wanted to keep discussion to Daybreak and reiterated how it could be a good starting point for players new to the series, especially with its new protagonists making their debut.
From there, the team introduced the North American voice actors for the game’s main characters, Damien Haas voicing Van Arkride and Ama Lee voicing Agnes Claudel.
Haas mentioned knowing a handful of the 50 or so characters that played a part in Trails Into Reverie and thought he’d end up being one of them before he was told he was the guy. He said he enjoyed Van being someone with a lot of experience and drive was also talking about him being caring.
Lee talked about how much she enjoyed voicing Agnes, as she admired her ability to be cute while also being able to turn things up a notch and be strong.
A short Q&A portion followed with the main questions to Kondo-san being what kinds of jobs Van wouldn’t do, the kind of friends Agnes would make, a little bit about the battle system, and what inspired Van’s “Grendel” form.
In regards to the jobs Van wouldn’t take, Kondo-san joked that he wouldn’t take jobs that would ruin good food.
He mentioned Agnes is someone who would make friends with anyone with her kind demeanor on top of being able to calmly yet sternly assess situations.
In regards to the battle system, Kondo-san admitted that it was the result of feedback to keep battles from feeling “slow”.
When talking about the Grendel, Kondo-san said the team really enjoys having characters go through transformations and while he didn’t exactly say it was an influence, he mentioned Kaman Rider as an example.
This Trails through Daybreak panel was the first of two Trails-related panels Anime Expo had today, and we attended both. We’ll have a writeup on the “Trails through Trails” panel they had in the evening in just a moment, so it keep it tuned to SmashPad for all our Anime Expo coverage.
