Hands-On: “Moving Out 2” Impressions

Team17 invited us to a small event in San Francisco for a few hours to give us some hands-on time with various projects, and among them was Moving Out 2, the sequel to the zany 2020 party game.

I never played the original game, but as a fan of Overcooked and Tools Up, I already knew what I was getting into. For the uninitiated, Moving Out is a party game where you have to move a bunch of specific pieces of furniture into a moving truck, and you’re given a rating based on how fast you finished the list. There are no points given for cleanliness, so it’s up to you to figure out the most creative ways to beat the clock in every level.

I got myself accustomed to the controls and trial-and-error-ed through some of the basics… like it’s a lot easier to carry a sofa with two people than it is by yourself. One of the funniest things you can also do is throw things out the window and into the moving truck. As mentioned, it doesn’t matter how clean you are as long as you’re able to do it fast, so breaking stuff enroute to the truck was awesome.

One thing the devs wanted to highlight was variety you have in the game’s level design. At first, you begin at typical neighborhoods, but they eventually get fantastical–you have to move stuff out in space, you have what’s essentially candy land, and not every level is about moving stuff into a truck. We played a level in the dessert land where you have to sort things by category.

Moving Out 2 comes out next month and will surely be a blast to those that get to play it, so whether you’re new to it or you’re used to all the craziness, this release should definitely be on your radar.
