As someone who takes pride in the video game library I’ve built over time, the current game industry presents more than one existential threat to the way I prefer to engage with it. Ballooning prices, game-key cards, GAAS, an overreliance on subscription services, and a powerful dependence on online support in general is going to make it hard to build out a long-term library that involves today’s video games.
While it’s still too early to give up hope, one really has to consider the viability of their investment when deciding where to put their gaming money today. Whether you’ve got enough gaming in-hand now to last you the rest of your life or not, in this video, I explore how I would move if the worst came to pass and the industry became entirely inhospitable to ownership of games in practice.
It is, at least, a fair time to consider that.
