While I’m not the biggest animal person, when it comes to games like Untitled Goose Game or Little Kitty, Big City where it’s all about doing animal things while just being an absolute nuisance to mankind, it gets my attention. So when I saw Just Crow Things at the Guerilla Collective, I had to give it a try.
Developed and published by Unbound Creations, Just Crow Things is a hilarious game much in the same vein of their previous projects such as Headliner or Rain On Your Parade. Obviously taking some inspiration from the aforementioned Untitled Goose Game and Little Kitty, Big City, Just Crow Things lets you act to your heart’s content as a crow.
When I got my hands on the build, I was pretty much just cleaning up after somebody left and found myself getting a quick hang of the controls. It feels like just about any third person-top down would, but it also had the interesting mechanic of flight. There were various areas in the game where you simply had to fly over them, and it was enjoyable getting accustomed with the crow’s trajectory, along with pooping on everything.
Yep, pooping on everything.
There’s actually an indicator at the top of the screen showing how many poops your bird has, and while we weren’t playing with sound, the developer at hand laughed about the fart sounds you’d make when splattering that white matter over whatever you want. Like the many animal menace games before it, each level features a checklist for you to follow as you work your way through the level, and while they’ll undoubtedly include taking a crap on the characters and objects you come across, one of the more interesting features is hearing the stories other animals end up telling you. One of the reasons why I loved Little Kitty, Big City as much as I did was because there was a real goal in that game, and I was told that would also be the case with Just Crow Things.
One of the levels we explored also included a bunch of assets specific to the event we were at (The Guerilla Collective), so that was pretty cool to see as well.
Just Crow Things is coming later this year on the PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch.
