This week’s featured game is Rayman Legends, which is out now for the PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox 360, Wii U, and Vita.
Rayman Origins was a great revival of the Rayman franchise as series creator Michel Ancel and his team at Ubisoft Montpellier reinvigorated the series with gorgeous 2D visuals and great controls that made the game a joy to play. The sequel takes everything that worked about the original and goes crazy to offer a lot more of it with more levels featuring gimmicks like touch-based Murfy controls, music-based levels, and even some remade versions of the levels from Rayman Origins. It feels like the team knew that this would probably be their last chance to make a Rayman game if the sales aren’t a dramatic improvement over the original’s abysmal performance in the fall of 2011. The development certainly has had its share of controversy with the delay of the Wii U version to let them port it to the other consoles, PC, and Vita and the shady way that Ubisoft decided not to comment on the omission of a certain section of levels from the Vita version until after launch, which is being rectified with an update at a later date to add those missing levels back in.
The rest of September’s shows will basically cover Puppeteer for the PS3 on next week’s show, Grand Theft Auto V for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on the third week of September, and Wonderful 101 takes over for the final week of the month.
