With the big success of the PowerWash Simulator games, we are starting to see our first indie games take cues from what makes a power-washing game fun and take it to new places. That is where Moldwasher comes in: a 2D game about cleaning up this incredibly nasty kitchen full of mold, disgusting goo, and more bad things in various parts of the room, due to whatever happened before this game begins. Under the Island is presented as a cozy version of that style of action adventure game, which doesn’t really result in the sort of game that comes to mind as a cozy game. It’s more like a Zelda game that isn’t super aggressive to challenge your skills and has a lot of variety to its dungeons to subvert your expectations.

This year has been quite a challenging year to cover games. The weekly news showed how badly studios did if they didn’t release a hugely successful game and needed funding for their next game, as all of that money seemed to be going to AI bullshit that is soaking up so much of the stock market. So much so that we’re on the verge of a recession when this bubble bursts. It’s a disheartening time to pretend everything is great in this industry when so many have suffered, and others are fearing for their jobs.
