Telltale does an excellent job setting our heroes up for the ultimate confrontation in the penultimate episode for this season of The Wolf Among Us.

When we last left our heroes, Sheriff Bigby Wolf nearly died in a fight to learn that Ichabod Crane was merely a pawn for the Crooked Man, a mysterious Fable that seems to be running things outside of Bigby’s jurisdiction. You ran into Bloody Mary and the Tweedles, who managed to push Bigby to his limits, forcing him and Snow White to give up the man they initially thought to be behind the murders of Faith and Lilly.
In Sheep’s Clothing begins with Bigby getting his gruesome wounds patched up by a Fable doctor while Snow White and Colin the Pig talk with him about the Pandora’s Box they opened up in regards to the Crooked Man. From there, Bigby and Snow set off, determined to find out how deep the rabbit hole goes in the seedy underbelly of Fabletown.
Why Should I Care?
While A Crooked Mile seemed to be all about grasping at straws in a witch hunt, Episode Four of The Wolf Among Us is a focused, forceful investigation they know is too dangerous to mess up. Once you assess the events of the previous episode, you start checking the few leads that you’ve found to figure out where to start looking for the information that you desire. This leads you to two locales to explore in either order that determines the extent of the exposition that you’ll get from each location, though both will provide you with enough details to figure out where to go next.
That exposition does a great job of fleshing out your knowledge of the Crooked Man and his closest goons that run his establishments and enforce his rules. It was a nice breath of fresh air to come into this episode as an aggressor with a plan, rather than an uncertain detective that didn’t know whether he was barking up the right tree or not, like in Episode Three.
What Makes It Worth My Time And Money?
As the end of this season of The Wolf Among Us nears, this episode is basically an awesome set-up to the finale where the highly-anticipated showdown between the protagonist and mysterious, illusive antagonist takes place. You learn a lot about the Crooked Man and how deep the rabbit hole goes in the shady outskirts of Fabletown that had fallen out of Bigby’s protective view.
This episode ran better than most of Telltale’s recent work with a couple of instances of audio issues and that was about it during my time playing through the episode. The only reason you shouldn’t grab this episode is if you’re waiting for the last episode to binge play the entire season, as the two month wait for the final episode will be tough after the great cliffhanger that caps off this episode.
Telltale has made the most of this new Fables universe with an excellent series so far, which has been trumping The Walking Dead with its greater control of the plot due to how you decide to investigate the leads you’re given.
