- Costs of emulation development may outweigh benefits of implementation
- Legacy hardware still at retail needs to be sold through to the consumer
- BC matters because gamers’ investments in entire generations need protection.
- As systems get littered with moving parts, long-term failure is inevitable.
- Solution: Keep BC a generation behind if need be.
- For example, PS3 hardware isn’t just going to mass-fail during eighth gen.
- PS5 should be able to “brute force” emulate PS3 despite Cell architecture.
- Just as PS4 should be able to with PS2 despite Emotion Engine.
